What citation styles are supported?
We support APA 7th Edition, MLA 9th Edition, Chicago 17th Edition, and Harvard referencing style. Each style follows the latest official guidelines.
What types of sources can I cite?
You can cite books, journal articles, websites, videos (YouTube, Vimeo), and conference papers. We're continuously adding support for more source types.
Can I export citations for use in LaTeX?
Yes! You can export citations in BibTeX format, which is compatible with LaTeX and most reference management software like Zotero and Mendeley.
How do I handle multiple authors?
Each citation style has different rules: APA uses "et al." for 3+ authors, MLA for 3+ authors. The tool automatically applies the correct format based on your selected style.
Are DOIs required for journal articles?
DOIs are highly recommended when available, especially in APA 7th edition. If a DOI exists, it should be included in the citation for better source identification.
What's the difference between inline and reference citations?
Inline citations appear in parentheses within your text (Smith, 2023), while reference citations are the full formatted entries in your bibliography. We generate both.
Can I save my citations for later use?
Yes, you can build a bibliography by adding multiple sources, then export them all together in your preferred format (text, BibTeX, or RIS).
How does automatic capitalization work?
The tool automatically applies the correct capitalization rules for each style: APA uses sentence case for titles, while MLA uses title case. You can enter titles in any format.
